Human Translation Services: Today, a human touch is more important than ever.
When it comes to quality, and despite significant advances in machine translation technology, a human translation cannot yet be matched.
The basis of our service is 100% human translation. A human translation provides the highest level of comprehension and accuracy. This is achieved by using terminology adapted not only to the target language but also to the subject matter of each project. The client can also decide to use their own terminology to maintain consistency across all their communication channels and platforms.
We provide you with expert translators, unparalleled customer service and cutting-edge technology. We provide high quality translations with a fast turnaround at reasonable rates.
Main Benefits of a Human Translation
It is our nature to seek out contact with other people and the written language allows us to communicate with millions of people around the world.
To be able to translate a text into another language requires more than merely understanding the grammar and vocabulary of the other language. To properly communicate a message, you must be familiar with the culture of both the origin and target language countries, understand the author’s intention and determine the right tone for the target audience.
What About Machine Translation (MT)?
Machine Translation has come a long way in recent years. That is an undisputed fact. Machines are getting very, very smart. Advances in the translation industry have come about thanks to the advances in artificial intelligence and big data that have allowed us to teach a machine to solve complex language problems.
The use of an automatic translation system allows thousands of words to be translated in a matter of seconds or minutes rather than days. However, machines still have quite a way to go and the text obtained directly from an automatic translation does not provide the expert knowledge in a specific area that a human translation can provide, or the exact tone the text’s message requires.
This type of translation can be a valid option for high-volume projects or projects with a small budget that will be used for reference only. However, we never suggest this option for critical documents on which your business depends, such as legal or financial texts.
It is also important to understand how these systems have advanced. Automatic translation systems use valid, prior translations as a base, processing millions of words to make the proper associations. The more existing material there is for a language combination, the higher the quality of an automatic translation between those two languages. On the other hand, machine translations of documents with a language pair for which there is not as much translated material available will be of lower quality.
To ensure your business’s success, you must bear in mind that any text that is presented to the public must read naturally and must always be adapted to the target market. Text generated by a machine may be understandable but usually lacks character and this is where the post-editing work of a human translator is crucial.
Machine Translation Plus Human Post-Editing
When a project requires an extremely short turnaround and contains a very large volume of text or when the budget for a translation project is reduced, a combination of Machine Translation and post-edition by a human translator may be the ideal choice.
We utilize the most advanced machine translation systems on the market which are based on Statistical Machine Translation (SMT) and Neural Machine Translation (NMT). These systems enable us to generate an understandable, basic translation in a matter of minutes which, once edited by an experienced translator, can produce a reasonable-quality translation.
This system can reduce the translation time required by around 30%.
The following are some examples of situations you might find yourself in where a combination of machine translation and post-editing by a human translator would be appropriate:
- You need as low a price as possible since your document is just for reference and is not critical to your business.
- It is urgent, and you need the translated text as quickly as possible, understanding that the quality will not be optimum.
- You are testing a new concept for your business in a foreign market and you need to make a minimum viable product (MVP) at a reduced cost.
- The content will be used in-house and will not be presented to your clients.
When Shouldn’t We Use Machine Translation?
An automatic translation can lead to misunderstandings that may even be offensive to the target audience. In a fun (but enlightening) video for Vanity Fair, Antonio Banderas explained a variety of Spanish phrases that can lead to embarrassing situations if not properly localized.
Although these examples are funny, there are cases where the reputations of major companies have been affected by the use of inappropriate translations.
The biggest problem with the use of an MT is that you can’t detect these situations automatically. This can lead to a text containing hundreds of pages to be compromised by a single sentence.
A good example of this was the launch of the website for the foundation opened by the former chairman of Banco Santander (Emilio Botín). The name of the foundation was Centro Botín. The misuse of an automatic translation lead to the founder’s last name being translated. As a result, the English version of the website referred to it as the “Loot Center” and, consequently, the foundation was mocked by the media rather than praise for its work.
These types of errors are critical and can cause irreparable damage to your business’s image. Since it is impossible for errors like this to be detected automatically, human post-edition is always necessary when an automatic translation is used.
What Is the Best Option for My Business?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Each situation is different and must be analyzed individually. The main factors to consider are:
- Who is my audience?
Are they clients I want to impress or is it a translation for internal use?
- How much time do I have?
A 100% human translation typically requires about 1 day for every 2000-2500 words. However, this may vary depending on the type of text and language combination.
- What is my budget for the translation?
A 100% human translation will guarantee the use of a precise lexicon and a tone in keeping with your audience, although the price will be higher. A translation done by a machine and corrected by a human will be less expensive and faster; however, it will not have the same fluidity and precise tone as a 100% human translation.

Language Opens Doors and Opportunities
In an increasingly connected world, companies can multiply their number of customers by localizing their products, websites, advertising material and their distribution channels.
A native translator (one who translates into his or her native language) ensures that the text can be read naturally as if it had originally been written in that language. For example, if you need to translate a text from English into Italian, the translator will be Italian.
Confidentiality Agreements (NDA)
U.S. Language Services Has a Strict Confidentiality Policy We understand that in certain cases, given the sensitivity of the information to be translated, some clients require we sign a specific confidentiality agreement (NDA). We would be happy to sign your NDA.
