Free U.S. Citizenship Practice Test
Hear each civics question read aloud and answer out loud, the way the officer asks it at your interview.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Official USCIS questions
How it works
Hear the question
Press play and the question is read aloud, the way the officer asks it. Nothing to read, nothing to choose from.
Answer out loud
Say your answer before you look. At the interview there is no list of options and nothing is written down.
Check and mark yourself
See the official answers, mark whether you had it, and get your result against the real pass mark.
The real test, at the real length
The date you filed Form N‑400 decides which version you take, not the date of your interview. The practice test asks, then runs at the length and pass mark of your version.
| You filed Form N‑400 | Questions to study | The officer asks | Correct to pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| On or after Oct 20, 2025 | 128 | up to 20 | 12 |
| Before Oct 20, 2025 | 100 | up to 10 | 6 |
| 65/20 exception | 20 starred | up to 10 | 6 |
Answered for your state
Four questions have a different correct answer in every state. Tell the practice test where you live and it answers them for your own state, D.C. and the five territories included. For your representative it lists your state’s districts, because the answer depends on the one you live in.
- Your two U.S. senators
- Your U.S. representative
- Your governor
- Your state capital

Common questions
Is the practice test free?
Yes. There is no account, no email address and nothing to install. Your answers stay in your own browser.
Is it the same as the real civics test?
It uses the official USCIS questions and answers, asks as many questions as the officer does and uses the same pass mark. It cannot tell you how your interview will go: only the officer decides that.
Which version should I practice?
The date you filed Form N‑400 decides it, not the date of your interview. Filed on or after October 20, 2025: the 2025 test. Filed before: the 2008 test. The date is in the “Received Date” box of your Form I‑797C receipt notice.
Can I practice on my phone?
Yes. It works on any phone, tablet or computer, and every question can be played out loud.
I came here from a printed study guide. Am I in the right place?
Yes. This is the address printed on the guide. The guide has every question and answer; the practice test reads them to you and lets you check yourself.
